Oven baked BBQ Wings
These Oven-baked wings were the first recipe I uploaded to Haloodiefoodie back in 2014. They are still a firm family favorite. These sticky wings hit many flavour notes, including sweet, spicy, sour and salty. Try them and tell me what you think.
Ingredients
Chicken wings: First marinade
- 1½ kg skin on wings drums and flats
- 1 tsp garlic paste
- 1 tsp ginger paste
- ½ tsp chilli powder
- 1 tbsp oil
- salt to taste
BBQ glaze
- 120 g tomato ketchup ½ cup
- 120 ml water ½ cup
- 80 ml white vinegar
- ½ tsp garlic paste
- 1 tsp ginger paste
- ½ tsp chilli powder
- 1 tsp paprika
- 1 tsp brown sugar
- 1 tsp honey
- ½ tsp soy sauce
- salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 200°C (gas mark 6)
- Marinate the chicken wings with the garlic and ginger paste, oil, salt and red chilli powder. Bake in the oven until the chicken wings are cooked, approx 45 mins.
BBQ Glaze
- Combine the BBQ glaze ingredients in a saucepan.
- Reduce down the BBQ on medium-low heat for 5 minutes, until the sauce thickens.
Baking the final glaze
- After the chicken has cooked, drain out the liquid. You can skip this step if you want a saucier product.
- Cover the wings in sauce and mix thoroughly.
- Increase the temperature of the oven, to crisp up the skin of the wings. Alternatively, place under a hot grill. Don't forget to turn the wings over to crisp both sides.
- Chalo Kawa
- Make sure you mop up the extra sauce with chips!
Any Questions
- Do you cover the wings with foil?
- How long do you bake the wings after the glaze goes on?
- How sweet is the BBQ sauce?
- How do you clean wings before cooking?
