Oven baked BBQ Wings
These Oven-baked wings were the first recipe I uploaded to Haloodiefoodie back in 2014. They are still a firm family favorite. These sticky wings hit many flavour notes, including sweet, spicy, sour and salty. Try them and tell me what you think.
Ingredients
Chicken wings: First marinade
- 1½ kg skin on wings drums and flats
- 1 tsp garlic paste
- 1 tsp ginger paste
- ½ tsp chilli powder
- 1 tbsp oil
- salt to taste
BBQ glaze
- 120 g tomato ketchup ½ cup
- 120 ml water ½ cup
- 80 ml white vinegar
- ½ tsp garlic paste
- 1 tsp ginger paste
- ½ tsp chilli powder
- 1 tsp paprika
- 1 tsp brown sugar
- 1 tsp honey
- ½ tsp soy sauce
- salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 200°C (gas mark 6)
- Marinate the chicken wings with the garlic and ginger paste, oil, salt and red chilli powder. Bake in the oven until the chicken wings are cooked, approx 45 mins.
BBQ Glaze
- Combine the BBQ glaze ingredients in a saucepan.
- Reduce down the BBQ on medium-low heat for 5 minutes, until the sauce thickens.
Baking the final glaze
- After the chicken has cooked, drain out the liquid. You can skip this step if you want a saucier product.
- Cover the wings in sauce and mix thoroughly.
- Increase the temperature of the oven, to crisp up the skin of the wings. Alternatively, place under a hot grill. Don't forget to turn the wings over to crisp both sides.
- Chalo Kawa
- Make sure you mop up the extra sauce with chips!
Any Questions
- Do you cover the wings with foil?
- How long do you bake the wings after the glaze goes on?
- How sweet is the BBQ sauce?
- How do you clean wings before cooking?
I’ve made these a few times they were absolutely delicious.
These wings are so moreish! Thanks for trying our recipes.
I add this recipe to literally any dawat I have because they are super easy to prep+make and always a hit! I use the airfryer instead of an oven and they are foolproof!
Mashallah!! Please do upload pics on your social media for us to share
Alhamdolillah, I’m glad you enjoyed the recipe. Thanks for the feedback and support
Salaam, what setting did you use when using the air fryer? X
160°C for around 20mins then crisp up with 180°C for 5 to 10mins
Should we turn the chicken wings in the first 45 minute cooking process in the oven?
After 45mins the wings should be cooked. Now crisp up the wings under the grill, turn over when one side has browned sufficiently!
Can I use drum sticks instead of wings ?
You can you drumsticks, however please ensure to adjust the cooking time – the drumstick will take longer to cook.
